Leon Russell, Mel McDaniel, Keith Anderson, Guitarist Tommy Crook, and Eric Clapton’s 1970’s band to perform at Oklahoma Music Hall of Fame Concert

MUSKOGEE, Okla. (Wednesday, August 1) – The small northeastern Oklahoma town of Muskogee will swell with celebrity on October 12 when buses and carloads of music industry artists and musicians and their loyal fans, families, and friends converge on the Muskogee Civic Center for the 10th Annual Oklahoma Music Hall of Fame Induction and Concert. By no means unaccustomed to the concept of fame and its attendant quirks, Muskogee has for 27 years lived under the banner of Merle Haggard’s “Okie from Muskogee”. As of late, the name “Okie from Muskogee” has been dusted off and worn with pride by the community in marketing brochures and advertisements, and with Muskogee now the official home of the Oklahoma Music Hall of Fame, the moniker, it seems, has come full circle.

The evening starts upstairs at the Civic Center with a reception and the official induction ceremonies from 5:30 to 7:30 PM. Inductees and VIP’s will then join regular ticket holders for the Hall of Fame’s 3,500 seat performance which will feature concert segments by up-and-comer Keith Anderson, Opry regular Mel McDaniel, and 70’s rock icon Leon Russell with his full band. Also performing will be guitar legend Tommy Crook in honor of swing pioneer guitarist Eldon Shamblin.

Interestingly enough for the Oklahoma Music Hall of Fame - who hopes to open the doors of their museum this fall in Muskogee featuring memorabilia of the past 10 years inductees - perhaps a piece of rock history will be made during the OMHF concert when Eric Clapton’s “Backless” and “461 Ocean Boulevard” era band reassembles onstage for the first time since the late 1970’s. That group of musicians and vocalists, sometimes referred to as Clapton’s “American Band”, are making the pilgrimage to Oklahoma to pay tribute to the late Carl Radle, the much revered Tulsa native who played the bass tracks on some of rock history’s greatest moments including Clapton’s “Layla” and “Wonderful Tonight”, George Harrison’s “My Sweet Lord”, Joe Cocker’s “Cry me a River”, and Delaney and Bonnie’s “Neverending Song of Love”. Bonnie Bramlett of Bonnie and Delaney is also making the trip to perform with the Clapton band. Others onstage will include drummer Jamie Oldaker, keyboardist Dick Sims, guitarist George Terry, vocalists Bramlett and Marcy Levy, pianist Walt Richmond, and guitarists Gary Gilmore, Tommy Tripplehorn, and Bill Raffensperger.
