Hinder is a five man band from Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. Their members consist of vocalist Austin Winkler, guitarists Joe “Blower” Garvey and Mark King, Mike Rodden on bass, and drummer Cody Hanson. The group was formed in 2001 by Cody Hanson, Joe Garvey, and Austin Winkler. They released their first independent album titled “Far From Close” on the independent record label, Brickden Records. It sold about 5,000 copies.
After being offered record deals by Atlantic, Roadrunner, and Universal Records, Hinder signed with Universal Records in 2005. Their first album debut effort, Extreme Behavior, is filled with flick-your Bic moments of arena rock grandeur, all crackling dual lead guitars, ethereal four-part harmonies and soaring beat-your-chest rock vocals, taking a page from timeless groups like Bad Company, Aerosmith, and the Rolling Stones, among others. The album has a total of ten singles with five of them reaching the top ten and three hitting number one.
Hinder entered the rock scene with their debut single “Get Stoned.” The song reached number four on the mainstream rock charts. The band’s second single, “Lips of an Angel,” hit number one on several charts and countries including Australia, New Zealand Canada, and the U.S. Pop 100. The band’s third and fourth singles were “How Long” and “Better Than Me” respectively.
In July 2007, Hinder headlined for the “Bad Boys of Rock” tour featuring Buckcherry and Papa Roach. The band also played with the mega rock band Aerosmith in December. On August 9, 2007 the band was the closing act at the Singapore music festival, SingFest.
